NSO Simulations

The National Schools' Observatory website contains numerous simulations and demonstrations designed to help pupils understanding of various principles and concepts.

These are collected together below so that you can assess their merits.

Use the arrow buttons to link to each simulation on the website.

-> LTRobot Software a powerful simulation enabling pupils to operate a 'virtual' robotic telescope and to take pictures of the night sky.
-> Electric Orrery solar system simulation to show the position of the planets past, present and future (+ - 100 years).
-> Day and Night the causes of day and night are revealed and the movement of the Sun and stars in the sky displayed.
-> Spinning Earth a simulation showing how the Sun and stars move across the sky as seen from different locations on the Earth.
-> Orbits a demonstration showing how a rocket can go into orbit around the Earth if it travels fast enough.
-> Moon Month The phases of the Moon are shown for each day in the month.
-> Phases of the Moon the Moon in orbit around the Earth is simulated with the phase of the Moon, as seen from Earth, clearly shown.
-> Life Cycle of a Star the stages in the life of a star are demonstrated.
