The Virtual Liverpool Telescope

Liverpool Telescope on site in La Palma

The Liverpool Telescope

The modern robotic telescope relies heavily on the application of ICT and the use of many sophisticated control systems.

A software simulation (LTRobot) has been developed so that pupils can experience controlling a robotic telescope to observe the heavens, whilst at the same time learning more about elements of control in a fun way.

Remember, though, that this software is for simulation purposes only and does not allow users to control the Liverpool Telescope !

Pupils enter commands that move the 'Virtual' Liverpool Telescope to target interesting objects in the night sky, make observations and ensure that the telescope operates within certain limits.

A workshop shows pupils how to use the LTRobot software. For convenience, pupils can run the simulation in one window on their computer desktop and the workshop in the other.
