Pupils working with telescope data

A number of Student Passwords, along with Usernames, are allocated to each school registering with the National Schools' Observatory. These are designed to allow pupils to take an active part in the process of using professional telescopes.

Providing a password for pupils to use is entirely at the discretion of the registered school.

However, it is recommended that pupils are provided with a student password so that they can follow their own interests and even work from home.

The Student Password allows pupils to:

  1. Download telescope image data once a school request for an observing programme has been completed.
  2. Observe the Moon, bright planets and comets.
Observing conditions permitting, these observations will be available for pupils to download the following day.
  3. Request observations as part of NSO Investigations.
  4. Download the image data associated with each object(s) included in their observing programme.

A Main Student Password is sent to each school when they register, but a large number of other ones can be set up by the Contact Teacher using this tool.
