Stimulating young people's interest in science and technology is an important aim of the National Schools' Observatory project.

In support of this aim all NSO registered schools have the permission of the National Schools' Observatory to copy NSO software provided it is restricted for:

It is recognised that registered schools cannot guarantee pupils do not copy NSO software themselves to third parties. However, we ask that registered schools explain the copyright rules to pupils who are provided with copies of NSO software.

Teachers can make copies of NSO software for use in the preparation of lessons and are given permission to take copies of NSO software home for this purpose.

The best way to provide pupils with access to NSO software is to put copies of the self-installing downloadable files onto a CDROM or USB memory stick, which can then be taken home as appropriate.

NSO software cannot be copied for any purpose other than that described above.
