Making the Measurements
By now you should have spent some time learning how to use LTImage and have downloaded at least one observation for the experiment. If you have not, it is probably best if you go back through the first tasks for the experiment.
If you are ready to make your measurements, follow these instructions:
1. Load your observation into LTImage.
2. Use the Display Scaling and False Colour tools to make sure that you can see all the objects in the image.
3. Use these Finding Charts to work out which is the Quasar and which are the two Calibration Stars.
4. Use the Brightness Measurement tool to measure the brightness of the Quasar and both Calibration Stars. Try to use about the same size circle for each one and write down the following numbers each time:
- The Object Counts.
- The X and Y Coordinates of the object.
- The Radius of the Circle.
- The Total Counts in the circle.
5. You can then Report your results.
Remember to keep coming back and checking to see if there are any new observations.
