Liverpool Telescope image of M42
This image shows just a small part of Messier 42 (also called the Orion Nebula). The colours tell us a lot about the object with the glowing blue and green being large clouds of gas in which new stars can form.
The red stars are not really red at all, but they are partly hidden behind a lot of dust which blocks out all the blue light, making them look red.
