Two computer-generated engineering drawings showing what the telescope will look like in the enclosure on La Palma. |
The moment we have all been working towards is close to becoming a
reality.
The Liverpool Telescope and its enclosure
will be shipped from Birkenhead docks
in August to reach the Canary Isles by
early September.
At present the foundations for the telescope and enclosure are being constructed. Concrete is being transported all the way up to the top of the mountain, which is 2,400 metres high, along a very narrow mountain road.
Before shipping, the telescope must be dismantled in Birkenhead by TTL and
placed into about six containers. Once in La Palma the telescope and
enclosure will be transported to the top of the mountain, again along this
narrow mountain road, which will be closed to accommodate the slow moving
transport vehicles.
