The National Schools' Observatory is pleased to announce that the Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) of Liverpool John Moores University, of which we are a part, has just been awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education. This biennial prize, one of the UK's most prestigious educational awards, will be presented at Buckingham Palace in February 2006 in recognition of the ARI's development of the first professional fully-robotic telescope in the world; namely the Liverpool telescope (pictured above), which registered UK schools can use to observe the Universe.

The award also recognises the outstanding contribution played by the National Schools' Observatory in using this world-leading technology to enthuse future generations about science and technology.
