Pleides Star Cluster

A group of Stars

Imagine you were in a spaceship flying out of the Solar System. What do you think you would find?

Orion Constellation

Different colour stars

Most of the time you would not find very much - Space is almost totally empty. Sometimes you might come near to a star. You would then see that most stars are very like the Sun.

There are so many stars that if you were to count one every second, it would take more than 6000 years to count them all!

Galaxies are full of stars

We call all of these stars a Galaxy. The galaxy we live in is called the Milky Way. Have you ever heard those names before? Where?

The Universe has a lot of galaxies in as well - millions of them. Can you image how many stars there are in all the galaxies together?
